Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Phil Jones speculation

By Alex Taylor

Liverpool are reportedly eyeing a £10million January move for Manchester United defender Phil Jones – and fans on Twitter have reacted angrily to the news.

The Sun claim that both Arsenal and Liverpool have been monitoring the 24-year-old’s situation at Old Trafford this season.

The centre-back, who is yet to feature under Jose Mourinho, has been plagued with injuries throughout his United career and is currently sidelined with a knee ligament problem.

Liverpool supporters on social media did not take well to the news that he could be on his way to Merseyside, with one fan saying the situation was like a nightmare.

Here is a selection of the messages on Twitter:

Jones moved to the Red Devils in the summer of 2011 for a fee of £16.5million and was highly regarded by then boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, despite having three years left on his contract it seems that Mourinho wants to cut his ties with the defender, who has made 140 appearances for the club during his five-year stay.

Liverpool have faced problems in their defensive ranks this season and could bring in Jones to provide extra cover at the back.

Last season’s number one Mamadou Sakho is currently in exile at the club after a string of disciplinary issues saw him sent home from the teams preseason tour.

In other Liverpool transfer news, the Reds are the latest side to seize the initiative in the race to sign Fulham wonderkid Ryan Sessegnon.
