Liverpool fans took to social media to slam Emre Can amid reports he wants a £200,000-a-week contract in order to stay at Anfield.
The Mirror claim that the Merseyside giants have not given up hope of agreeing a new deal with the Germany international, whose current agreement expires at the end of the season.
It is said that Can is seeking a new contract worth more than £200,000-a-week that would make him the best paid player in the club’s history.
The Mirror report that Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group are “unlikely” to meet the 24-year-old’s demands but “further talks” will be held before his future is resolved.
A section of Reds supporters took to Twitter to urge their club not to hand Can such an astronomical salary given his performances for the team.
One fan tweeted that he would be in favour of the club giving the midfielder £200,000-a-week, only to be shot down by another supporter that stated the club didn’t need him with Naby Keita set to join in the summer from RB Leipzig.
Others were staggered by Can’s reported demands and disbelieving that he could value himself so highly.
Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:
Can Demanding £200 000 a week to stay, i’d tell him to keep moving. Naby Keita coming in, giving him what he demands will only set a wrong example #LFC

No way is this real. He can't value himself at £200k a week, surely.
