Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Coutinho display
By Alex Stevens
Philippe Coutinho made his long-awaited comeback in Liverpool’s League Cup defeat to Southampton on Wednesday night – and fans claimed it was the only good point of a forgettable evening.
The Brazilian playmaker was introduced as second-half substitute in the 61st minute of the visitors’ 1-0 semi-final first leg loss at St Mary’s Stadium.
It was the first action for Coutinho, who replaced Georginio Wijnaldum, since he injured his ankle against Sunderland on 26 November.
The 24-year-old was unable to turn the game in his team’s favour but had one excellent run down the inside left channel and had some nice touches.
Liverpool supporters were delighted to see the attacking midfielder back in action after his seven-week absence.

Feels like the momentum we had two weeks ago is fading.
Massive step up needed for United.
Winless in 2017.
But Coutinho’s back baby!#LFC

Liverpool will now aim to put a disappointing display behind them as they prepare for Sunday’s mouthwatering Premier League showdown against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are challenging for the Premier League title and visit their bitter rivals well placed at second in the table, just five points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
