Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Karius display v Southampton
By Harvey Byrne
Loris Karius was named in goal for Liverpool against Southampton on Wednesday evening and despite the loss he received high praise on Twitter from Reds fans.
The 23-year-old has had a poor start to his career on Merseyside after joining in the summer to become the club’s new number one.
However, the goalkeeper made a number of saves during the 1-0 League Cup semi-final defeat and was only beaten due to a lapse in concentration from his defence which allowed Nathan Redmond a clear shot at goal.
Jurgen Klopp opted to use Karius ahead of Simon Mignolet in the clash and Liverpool fans on social media believe the manager’s decision was fully justified, with many claiming the scoreline could have been worse without the German shot-stopper.
Here are a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Performance reminded me when we were playing under Rogers. Shocking. Play like that at OT & we get belted by plenty. Karius was decent #LFC

Only 2 positives from tonight for me was the performance of Karius and the fact we got away with only a 1-0 deficit going into 2nd leg #LFC

Karius has played in 13 matches for Liverpool in all competitions this season after completing a move from Mainz in the summer.
He has conceded 13 goals and kept five clean sheets, but high profile mistakes against West Ham and Bournemouth saw the young goalkeeper dropped to the bench for Mignolet in the league.
Liverpool face fierce rivals Manchester United on Sunday and it is unlikely that Karius will be between the sticks, but performances like the one against Southampton will do him no harm.
In other Liverpool news, this Reds ace is expected to leave despite having an offer on the table.
