'Still a LFC fan' - Liverpool fans react on Twitter to Sigurdsson equaliser against Man United

By Alex Stevens

Gylfi Sigurdsson scored a late equalising free-kick for Swansea in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Sunday – and Liverpool fans took to Twitter to express their delight.

Wayne Rooney’s penalty on the verge of half-time appeared to have secured the win for United that would have taken them to third in the Premier League table and above the Merseysiders.

But Sigurdsson ensured a share of the spoils with a magnificently executed 79th minute free-kick, his ninth league goal of the season.

Liverpool fans were grateful to the Icelandic attacking midfielder for denying United the three points and ensuring that their fate remains in their own hands.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Sigurdsson is a boyhood Liverpool fan and came close to join the club in 2012 but opted instead for a transfer to Tottenham.

He has been in outstanding form for Swansea this season, directly contributing to 21 of their 40 league goals through either assists or goals.

United remain fifth in the league table after wasting the chance to climb above Liverpool and Manchester City, who travel to Middlesbrough on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are in action on Monday night when they travel to Watford, with a victory meaning they will remain in third position irrespective of City’s result.

In other Liverpool news, Klopp is confident of signing the next Gareth Bale for a bargain price of just £10million as the deal of the summer edges closer.
