Liverpool fans are elated on Twitter after Jurgen Klopp decided to start Daniel Sturridge against West Ham on Sunday afternoon.

Roberto Firmino’s muscle injury has ruled him out of the must-win clash, leaving Sturridge to replace him in the final third for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

In one of two changes, 25-time England international Sturridge comes into the side along with Three Lions teammate Adam Lallana, with Lucas Leiva also dropping out through injury.

Liverpool announced the side on their official Twitter account prior to the match.

Sturridge has failed to start a game for the Merseyside giants since January, with Firmino and Origi given preference over the former Manchester City and Chelsea forward.

It has led to reports suggesting the 27-year-old’s future is in doubt at Anfield, with the Sun on Sunday reporting last month that Sturridge had told close friends he could join Sunday’s opponents West Ham.

Liverpool fans were delighted to see Klopp belatedly give Sturridge the chance from the off to put the Hammers to the sword and go one better then November’s 2-2 draw.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

This season, Sturridge’s lack of playing time has seen him score just six goals in 25 league and cup appearances for the Reds, but he will be looking to add to that against the Hammers.
