Liverpool fans stunned by ‘insane’ Mateta transfer update
Liverpool fans have urged the club to move for Jean-Philippe Mateta after a fresh development emerged in their summer hunt for a new striker.
The Reds are expected to reinforce their forward line ahead of the new season, with Darwin Nunez’s looking set to leave Liverpool.
The Uruguayan endured a frustrating campaign, struggling to secure a consistent starting role, and the club are now said to be open to letting him leave.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed Liverpool would be willing to accept a cut-price offer for Nunez in order to accelerate their push for a new striker.
While names such as Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike have been linked, a new update has shifted fan focus to Crystal Palace’s Jean-Philippe Mateta.

Liverpool make contact with Jean-Philippe Mateta’s representatives
According to Foot Mercato journalist Sebastian Denis, Mateta and his representatives have “met with Liverpool in recent days” with the striker now firmly on the radar of the Anfield club.
Denis added that Liverpool are “keen” on signing the French forward, and initial contact has already been made by the reigning Champions League winners.
Should Liverpool step up their pursuit, they may face competition, with Football Insider revealing that Manchester United are also targeting Mateta as part of their search for a new number nine.
Some fans have already made their preference clear, with Man United fans also voicing support for a move for Mateta, who fits the mould of a strong, traditional centre-forward.
He enjoyed an impressive campaign for Crystal Palace last season, scoring 17 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions. His physical presence and clinical finishing have attracted interest from several clubs, with Liverpool now the latest on that list.

Liverpool fans call for Mateta transfer as striker talks stall at Palace
Despite rising interest from top clubs, Football Insider revealed that Crystal Palace entered talks with Mateta over a new deal back in April. However, negotiations appear to have stalled, with no agreement yet in place.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are exploring multiple options in the market this summer, with their striker search part of a wider recruitment drive that has also seen the club sign Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong.
Following the latest update on Mateta’s situation, many Liverpool fans have voiced their support for the club to push ahead with a deal.
One supporter wrote: “Very smart signing. Especially with us signing flying full-backs and Salah’s crossing ability. Fantastic back-up striker.” Another added: “Clinical striker, very excited.”
