‘Liverpool set to sign striker following major Florian Wirtz development’

Liverpool appear set to eye a new striker following a major development regarding their interest in Bayer Leverkusen ace Florian Wirtz.

The attacking midfielder has enjoyed a stellar Bundesliga season, notching 10 goals and 12 assists in the German top flight.

Arne Slot’s men have already established a good relationship in negotiations with Leverkusen, after Liverpool signed Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong could prove to be an important addition for the Anfield club, after the departure of fellow full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Liverpool want to sign a striker as they close in on Wirtz

As exclusively revealed by Football Insider, Liverpool are now closing in on Wirtz, as Slot looks to add yet more quality to his ranks.

Meanwhile, when discussing the Reds’ transfer activity on YouTube [28 May], the Daily Mail’s Lewis Steele said: “My information is when Wirtz is wrapped up, the attention will turn to a number nine.”

The Anfield club were the top scorers in the Premier League this season, but Slot has an appetite to add more firepower to his side.

Darwin Nunez is set for the Liverpool exit door

As reported by Steele, Slot is keen to reshape Liverpool’s forward line once the Reds acquire Wirtz’s signature.

But while the Premier League champions look to sign a new striker, they will also have to make way for any new signings by letting go of some of their current assets.

Football Insider have exclusively revealed that Darwin Nunez is set to leave Liverpool in favour of a move to either La Liga or the Saudi Pro League.

Nunez has endured a tough season in the final third, scoring just five goals in 30 Premier League appearances.

As the Merseyside giants look to bring a new striker to the North West, the Uruguay international is the obvious candidate to depart, having fallen out of favour under Slot.

The 25-year-old was handed just eight starts in the top flight by the Dutchman and should be keen to enjoy more game time elsewhere.

Meanwhile, Liverpool News have exclusively revealed how Alexander-Arnold will fit into Xabi Alonso’s system at Real Madrid.
