Liverpool have been forced into a major transfer U-turn by the impending exit of striker Rhian Brewster, according to a report.

The Liverpool Echo claim the Merseyside giants are facing up to the prospect of losing the 18-year-old this summer after he snubbed their offer of a new contract and will now look to prioritise a new striker signing.

It is said there is intense interest in Brewster, with Borussia Mochengladbach and RB Leipzig leading the chase for his signature as a transfer draws closer, even though Jurgen Klopp has made it clear to the teenager how highly he rates him.

A separate report by Liverpool Echo claim the Premier League club value Brewster at £10million despite him being out of contract next month.

Football Insider verdict:

Given Brewster’s contract stand-off, it appears inevitable he will now quit Liverpool within weeks. It would represent a huge kick in the teeth for the Anfield hierarchy, with manager Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards among those who regard the teenager very highly. Little wonder. Brewster has immense talent and served notice of his precocity when he was part of the England squad which won the Under-17 World Cup last year and even won the Golden Boot award as the tournament’s top scorer. He has continued to plunder goals for the Under-23s this season and has been promised he will be fast-tracked into the senior set-up next season when he has recovered from the injury sustained in January. That does not appear to be enough to convince Brewster, who has seen how Jadon Sancho has thrived since quitting Manchester City for Borussia Dortmund. Liverpool would automatically be due only £200,000 compensation for Brewster under FIFA rules were he to move abroad, but there is confidence they could pocket a similar fee to the £10million City got for Sancho. Liverpool are right to value Brewster similarly, but it would still be a huge blow to lose the rookie, even for such a high sum for an 18-year-old.

In other Liverpool news, the club are to table a mega goal machine offer, he will certainly be at Anfield in 18/19.
