Liverpool get green light to agree ‘£500,000-a-week Mohamed Salah deal’

Liverpool will not be able to match the £65million deal Mohamed Salah has reportedly been offered to join a Saudi Arabian club but have the funds to pay him an extraordinary £500,000-a-week deal.

That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider there is a solid chance the Egypt international will make the move to the Middle Eastern country this summer.

Liverpool are currently at risk of losing Salah on a free transfer when his contract at Anfield expires in June 2025.

The 32-year-old is already able to discuss a pre-contract agreement with foreign sides as speculation continues around his future.

It has been reported Saudi chiefs are tempting Salah to quit Liverpool with a stunning £65million offer over two seasons after he’s been linked with a move to Al-Hilal.

Liverpool have left themselves exposed to Mohamed Salah exit

Borson insisted it’s “surprising” the Merseysiders haven’t offered the forward a big-money deal to remain at the club.

“It’s definitely unlikely Liverpool will match those terms,” Borson told Football Insider.

“I still think it’s surprising that Liverpool haven’t sorted it.

“Even if it was on a two-year deal for him at £25million a year, in the grand scheme of things, I would have thought that would have made sense for Liverpool given his level of fitness, potentially with a carve-out if his fitness falls off a cliff.

“But that doesn’t strike me as likely because he seems to be a player who is surely able to perform at the highest level for the next two seasons.

“It is surprising that Liverpool have not just gone for it and recognised that.

“But they clearly haven’t and they are, therefore, exposed to him leaving.

“I think there is probably a solid chance that he will leave at the end of this season and will end up taking the money in Saudi Arabia to become even more wealthy than he is already.”
