Liverpool handed major boost after behind-the-scenes announcement - pundit

Liverpool could benefit from a lack of competitive games in the month of September.

That’s according to former Leeds United stopper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Reds’ start to the season.

Due to the postponement of clashes against Wolves and Chelsea, as well as the international break, Liverpool will only play one Premier League game in September.

That game was 3 September’s 0-0 draw with Everton.

After beating Ajax 2-1 on Tuesday (13 September) the Reds will not play again until they face Brighton on 1 October.

Kenny insists this could be a blessing in disguise after a poor start to the season.

“Sometimes you need that week in-between games to try and put things right,” Kenny told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“Sometimes when you play Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday, Wednesday, it is difficult to try and get things done on the training pitch because it is all about recovery.

“It will be an important time for them on the training pitch for them., They have to take the positives from not playing their Premier league games.

“They have to get on that training pitch and try to put these problems they have been having behind them.

“Defensively especially but also going forward because they haven’t really been scoring like they used to, have they?”

Liverpool have won two Premier League games this season.

They sit six points off the top of the table.
