Liverpool must bring in Xabi Alonso and sack Arne Slot to save their season now that the international break has begun.

The Reds suffered another embarrassing defeat on Saturday as Brighton and Hove Albion cruised to a 2-1 win relatively untroubled.

Slot’s side were once again blunt up top and looked susceptible at the back, and the Seagulls should have arguably won by more.

With Champions League qualification now at massive risk, Liverpool must simply sack Slot and bring in Xabi Alonso now the international break has begun.

Below, Football Insider has outlined how this simple managerial decision could save the Reds’ season.

Xabi Alonso can be Liverpool’s saviour

In recent weeks it has become apparent that Slot is not the man to take Liverpool forward.

Despite guiding the club to a Premier League title last season, for the majority of the current campaign, the Reds have been dreadful despite all the money they spent in the summer transfer window.

One of the most damning stats is how much they have been outrun, with Nik Postinger via X pointing out that this has happened in 26 of their 30 Premier League games.

Now, with Liverpool not set to play until after the international break, sacking Slot to bring in Alonso would be the ideal solution.

Not only does the Spaniard know the club inside out, but his tactics are excellent, with Bayer Leverkusen playing some of the best football in Europe when he was at the German side.

In particular, his side was recognised for their high-energy pressing and aggressive wing-backs, something that has been badly missing in Liverpool’s recent matches.

By adding this style to the team, it could get the best out of players such as Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz, making the Reds a far more formidable side.

On top of this, it would make them more of a threat in Europe, and could make them genuine Champions League contenders if implemented quickly.

Therefore, Liverpool must bite the bullet and sack Slot for Alonso before it is too late.

Would Alonso join Liverpool?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Alonso would be a leading candidate at Liverpool if Slot were sacked.

The Reds are prepared to overlook his short time at Real Madrid, where he was sacked in January 2026.

Instead, his managerial reputation has largely remained intact thanks to his career at Leverkusen.

However, it remains to be seen if Liverpool will make a move for Alonso if Slot is removed from the dugout, or if another manager will be considered instead.
