Liverpool hatch ‘£100m’ plan for star quartet – Keith Wyness

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Liverpool could forgo a £100million payout to keep their in-demand stars at Anfield for another season.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted Arne Slot and his transfer team will have to make “very interesting decisions” on the futures of Alisson Becker, Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Van Dijk, Salah and Alexander-Arnold are all out of contract at the end of the 2024-25 campaign and can sign a pre-agreement in January.

Meanwhile, Alisson has been linked with a potential Saudi Pro League switch.

Liverpool are the only Premier League side yet to make a signing so far in the summer window with two weeks before the 30 August deadline.

Liverpool could forgo fees for Salah, Van Dijk, Alexander-Arnold and Alisson

Wyness claimed the Reds could forgo “£100million” in potential fees to maintain “stability” at Anfield.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There are big question marks at Liverpool.

“Not only about Trent, but Salah, Van Dijk and even Alisson.

“There are some big questions, and the one in my mind is whether it’s worth it to take the hit on these players.

“How much is this season worth? It could be worth a lot to keep these players and forgo the transfer fees in a transition season.

“It’s coming to a head now. Arne Slot and the sporting director will have to make some very interesting decisions.

“But maybe £100million in forgone transfer fees is worth it to have stability for another season.

“It’s not ridiculous.”
