Liverpool have clear plan for new Alisson contract as leadership concern emerges

Liverpool are set to evaluate the possibility of handing a new contract to veteran goalkeeper Alisson next season, sources have told Football Insider.

The Brazilian is due to enter the final year of his deal at Anfield this summer, but the Reds are determined that he is not for sale, despite sustained interest from Juventus.

The Merseysiders are already set to lose the likes of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson at the end of the season, and sources say that they are concerned that selling Alisson as well would leave a void in the leadership group.

Instead, they plan to assess how the 33-year-old performs, with the possibility of a one-year extension potentially on the table if the club are happy that he still has what it takes in the Premier League.

Liverpool’s transfer plans are set to see their squad take a different feel next term, but they have already decided that Alisson is a player that they cannot afford to lose.

Juventus lack finances for Alisson deal

Football Insider revealed back in February that Juventus would struggle to afford Alisson this summer if they fail to qualify for Champions League football at the end of the campaign.

The former Roma man commands a significant wage at Anfield at the moment, while Liverpool’s lack of desire to sell would also mean a sizeable transfer fee would be needed to land him.

The Old Lady are currently fourth in Serie A and occupying the final Champions League place at the moment, but given that they are just two points clear of Como, they are set to face a nervy end to the season.

Alisson has proven his ability in the Italian top flight in the past, but Liverpool are set to stand in the way of any genuine moves from Turin this summer.

He has been deemed too important to leave ahead of next season, with the Liverpool hierarchy keen to ensure that they retain some of the senior players who have been crucial figures for them in recent years.

What does this mean for Giorgi Mamardashvili’s Liverpool future?

Football Insider revealed at the end of March that Liverpool are also not willing to sell Giorgi Mamardashvili this summer, despite him continuing to play second fiddle for large parts of the season.

The Georgian is expected to have several clubs across Europe who would be ready to make a move for him if the Reds opened the door to an exit, but that will not be the case this summer.

Mamardashvili is still being lined up as the long-term successor to Alisson in the number one role, and Liverpool are keen to ensure that he gets a chance to impress as the genuine starter whenever his teammate does depart.

The 25-year-old is held in very high regard behind the scenes at Anfield, and they feel that he is someone who would be capable of immediately stepping into Alisson’s shoes whenever the time comes.
