Finance guru: Liverpool salutes ‘smart’ new Liverpool deal – ‘this is the next big thing’
Liverpool know the metaverse could be the “next big thing” and are “smart” to get in at the ground floor.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Merseysiders’ latest commercial deal.
Liverpool announced last Friday (14 October) that they had launched a club-branded ranger of digital avatars in collaboration with Meta, the company which owns Facebook and Instagram.

Meta is currently developing its own metaverse, an immersive virtual reality internet experience.
Liverpool have shown their willingness to embrace new technology in their data and analysis department as well as with their commercial ventures, such as their recent dalliance with NFTs.
Plumley saluted their forward-thinking approach.
“It’s absolutely the right thing to be doing,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“People are becoming more aware that this is the next big thing coming down the track in terms of digital footprint and the ability to generate digital revenue through a variety of platforms.
“I think you can see here the type of partnership that Liverpool are looking at. Who they are partnering with is a big player in the market.

“There is potential for growth in this space. How big, we don’t know. But it is something the club should be targeting. It’s no surprise to see that Liverpool are well placed to capitalise.
“So, I think it’s a smart move and one that could generate a significant amount of revenue moving forward.“
