Kieran Maguire: Liverpool have just ‘failed Uefa regulations’ as financial impact analysed
Liverpool have missed out on a windfall after they were snubbed as a host venue for the 2028 Euros.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about why Anfield will not stage games at the continental championship.
It has been all but confirmed that the United Kingdom will host the 2028 tournament.

But as relayed by the Daily Star on Thursday (22 September), both Anfield and Arsenal’s Emirates stadium are among the venues set to be snubbed.
Both are among the largest and most famous stadiums in the country.
Maguire explained that Liverpool would have benefitted had Anfield satisfied Uefa regulations and been allowed to be one of the 10 venues.
“It looks as though Anfield will not be able to host a Euro 2028 match because the pitch is not large enough to satisfy Uefa regulations,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“Liverpool will therefore have missed out on merchandise sales on those days. They have a fantastic megastore which could have attracted many fans.
“It is also employment for people in and around the city. There is also income from hospitality as well as matchday income, and the club would have been able to charge a hosting fee.

“While the numbers involved are not huge, every little helps.
“It’s a time of year when the stadium is not being used for football purposes, so it would have helped to boost top line and cash flow.”
