‘Liverpool have just made mind-blowing announcement’

Liverpool announced a £57million loss in their accounts for the 2023-24 campaign – the highest in club history.

However, revenue increased from £594million in the previous season to a club-record £614million – a 3% lift.

That is despite playing Europa League football in the 2023-24 campaign and being eliminated at the quarter-final stage.

The increase has been driven in part by a huge uplift in commercial revenue, which reached the £300million mark for the first time in Liverpool history.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has delivered a “mind-blowing” verdict on the news.

Wyness hails ‘incredibly positive’ Liverpool accounts

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted the Liverpool accounts are “incredibly positive” despite the loss.

The Reds’ finances will be boosted this season by their form in the new money-spinning Champions League format – plus a potential Premier League title win.

Wyness insisted Liverpool are “leading the way” in terms of connecting with their international fanbase.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I think it’s an incredibly positive set of accounts.

“I’ve got to say kudos to their commercial department, who have done a great job.

“They’ve put together some great deals, and it’s showing that Fenway have done a good job in improving revenue.

“They’ve done it in international markets, which is where most clubs can do a lot more.

“I’ve spoken about it before, but reaching out and understanding who your fanbase is internationally is still a big area that most Premier League clubs are very poor at.

“To me, that’s where the money is.

“There are new technologies coming forward to help clubs do this, and it’s mind-blowing to see how clubs get to know their fans overseas.

“It’s exciting, and Liverpool are leading the way.

“They’re running the football side on data and the commercial side is thriving too.

“As much as it hurts me as an Everton fan, the red side of Liverpool have done very well.”

Liverpool hunt new left-back signing

Meanwhile, Liverpool are lining up a new left-back signing in the off-season with Andy Robertson‘s decline laid bare in the 2024-25 campaign.

Football Insider revealed on Tuesday (4 March) that the Reds have question marks over the age of Fulham star Antonee Robinson despite his incredible form this season.

It is believed Milos Kerkez of Bournemouth, who is just 21, is a more concrete target for Liverpool as they plan their summer transfer business.
