Liverpool have learnt their lesson after Diogo Jota news confirmed – pundit
Kevin Campbell has applauded Liverpool for their “smart” decision to renew Diogo Jota’s contract this summer.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker suggested the Reds have learnt their lesson following the exit of Sadio Mane to Bayern Munich.
On 2 August, Liverpool confirmed Jota had put pen to paper on a new long-term contract at Anfield.
It is understood to be a five-year agreement worth around £150,000-a-week.
Jota’s previous deal still had three years remaining on it.
The forward, who is currently sidelined through injury, has been a big success for the Reds since joining from Wolves in September 2020.
When asked if the club had learned their lessons from previous negotiations, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “Put it this way, whatever contract Jota was brought in on two years ago, he has outplayed it.
“Let’s be honest, he outplayed that contract and some.
“It is the right thing to do and it is the smart thing to do [renewing his contract]. Do not wait until players start running down their deals.
“They do not want a repeat situation of what happened with Mane and [Mohamed] Salah.

“Pat Jota on the back and give him the upgrade now. That way, the club is not vulnerable.
“When you are vulnerable, players like Mane can end up leaving. Liverpool have been smart and have acted now.”
