Liverpool have made behind-the-scenes Jarrad Branthwaite move – sources
Liverpool have a “concrete” and active interest in signing Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite, sources have told Football Insider.
The shock speculation about the centre-back making what would be a sensational inter-city move stemmed from Liverpool making contact with the 22-year-old’s agent, according to sources.
It is believed that the England international is interested in making what would be an explosive move between the rival clubs.
Only 30 players have ever been transferred between the two Merseyside giants, with the latest taking place in 2002 when Abel Xavier swapped Goodison Park for Anfield.
Branthwaite is under contract with Everton until 2027, putting the club in a strong negotiating position.
Liverpool want to add Jarrad Branthwaite to their defensive options
Liverpool do have interest in signing Branthwaite as Arne Slot looks to bolster his defensive options moving forward.
The young defender has caught the eye of various clubs due to his performances at Everton, where he has made 54 appearances, and he also developed impressively during a season-long loan at PSV Eindhoven in 2022-23.
Virgil van Dijk is also out of contract at Anfield next summer, and Branthwaite could work as a natural replacement if the Netherlands giant doesn’t sign a new contract.

Branthwaite has played 45 times in the Premier League, scoring four goals and providing one assist.
The centre-back also broke into the England setup under Gareth Southgate, having earned one cap so far in his international career.
