Finance guru: Liverpool have ‘more power than ever’ amid latest in legal battle
Liverpool arguably have more power on the football governance stage now than they have ever had before.
That is the view of finance expert Doctor Dan Plumley, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the latest from the Super League case at the European Court of Justice.
The three remaining clubs from last April’s breakaway plot – Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus – are arguing the case for the right to establish their own competitions.

Uefa have labelled the 12 clubs who attempted to uproot the European game a “cartel”, as quoted by BBC Sport last Monday (11 July).
Liverpool were one of the first teams to join the Super League separatists but quickly backtracked amid an extraordinary backlash from supporters.
But Plumley claims that the Merseysiders’ power has actually grown just 15 months on from the humiliation.
“It’s a strong term but you can see the reasoning behind it,” the Sheffield Hallam University expert told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“We can talk about this in economic terms. Everyone roughly knows what a ‘cartel’ or a ‘monopoly’ means. It’s a fascinating dynamic as well with Uefa going head-to-head with these teams.
“But the Champions League is Uefa’s own cartel itself. They have monopoly control there. I think there’s a little bit of the pot calling the kettle black.

“The Super League are pointing out that they are doing the same as them, and that’s not fair. So whether this is accurate or not probably depends on which side of the fence you’re on.
“But either way, it’s clear to see that clubs have a lot of power here, perhaps more so than they have ever had.”
