Liverpool have ‘problem’ with Roberto Firmino after what expert has spotted
Kevin Campbell has claimed Liverpool have a “problem” with Roberto Firmino.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal striker said the 30-year-old is devoid of confidence and knows he is no longer first choice at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s side produced a dismal display in a 2-1 loss to Man United on Monday (22 August).
Firmino started at Old Trafford in the absence of the injured Diogo Jota and the suspended Darwin Nunez.
The Brazil international struggled to impact the game and had just one shot despite touching the ball 70 times. [SofaScore]
When asked by Football Insider if Firmino was coming too deep for the ball against the Red Devils, Campbell said: “Let me tell you what has happened.
“Firmino used to play every game. He had [Mohamed] Salah and [Sadio] Mane next to him every game but he is not first choice anymore. This is the problem.
“When a player spends a lot of time on the bench he cannot find his rhythm back. His confidence isn’t there anymore either. That is because he is not first choice. He knows he is only playing because Nunez and Jota ain’t there.
“Firmino is not past his prime. You cannot get the best out of him because he is not first choice. I think he is a player who needs to play regularly.
“It was a really bad day at the office for the whole team. What I saw, Firmino was coming too deep because he wanted a touch of the ball. They could not get the ball to him.

“Liverpool are normally very good at breaking through the lines but they couldn’t get the ball to him. They keep giving the ball away.
“Does he stay high and never get the ball or come back and help out? You cannot win sometimes.”
