Liverpool have secret weapon in race to sign Jude Bellingham after journalist’s update – pundit

Alan Hutton has claimed Jude Bellingham’s admiration of Steven Gerrard could play into the hands of Liverpool next summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Rangers right-back said the 19-year-old would take Jurgen Klopp’s side “to the next level.”

According to The Athletic‘s James Pearce (21 September), Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Chelsea and Real Madrid all have a “strong interest” in the Borussia Dortmund midfielder.

Bellingham is said to have idolised Anfield legend Steven Gerrard when growing up.

Furthermore, he apparently has a mutual respect with current Reds captain Jordan Henderson.

When asked by Football Insider if Liverpool’s connections with Bellingham could be a secret weapon, Hutton said: “There is probably a bit of that.

“A number of teams will be chasing after him. All of the big hitters will want him in their team.

“We used to meet up with Scotland and when it was the transfer window you would banter back and forth with the other players, ‘You have to come to my team. This is the best place for you.’

“Everyone knows how good he is and what he can bring. Of course, you want a player of his ability in your squad.

“It will be interesting to see where he goes. If Liverpool can get him it would take them to the next level. He really is a fabulous player.”
