‘Liverpool hit by big transfer blow after new whispers – this is a whole new level’
Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group only managed to bring transfer guru Michael Edwards back into the fold last year but could already face losing him.
The Boston-based firm appointed Edwards as its chief executive of football last year – with the establishment of a multi-club network a key objective.
However, GiveMeSport has now reported (20 May) that the FSG chief has been approached by Al-Hilal to discuss taking up a senior role at the club.
Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider (25 May) that Edwards has likely been offered an “extraordinary” amount of money to make the move to the Middle East.
Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has had his say on a potential exit for the 45-year-old, who was previously at Liverpool between 2011 and 2022.

Saudi giants make move to poach Liverpool chief
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted an Al-Hilal move for Edwards would prove the Saudi Pro League is taking their football project to “a whole new level”.
Liverpool are expected to have a busy transfer window this summer and are widely reported to be in pole position to land Bayer Leverkusen star Florian Wirtz.
Wyness told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “The other big Al-Hilal rumour that has broken is them lining up a move to get Michael Edwards from Liverpool.
“Edwards is one of the big brains behind Liverpool and their transfer team.
“This would show a whole new level from Al-Hilal in not just bringing in high-priced players, but also high-priced brains.
“They’re trying to put together a real global football club, so that’s interesting news.”

Liverpool could seal Cherki swoop
Meanwhile, Football Insider has revealed (20 May) that Liverpool will have to sell one of their current forward options before considering a deal for Rayan Cherki.
| Appearances (Starts) | 44 (34) |

Cherki, 21, and Lyon have confirmed the star winger will depart for pastures new this summer.
The Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain target made 44 appearances across all competitions this term, notching 12 goals and 20 assists.
