Liverpool hit by Mac Allister injury blow as new details emerge – report

Liverpool have been dealt an injury blow ahead of their fixture against Nottingham Forest on 14 September after Alexis Mac Allister was forced off during Argentina’s recent World Cup qualifier.

The 25-year-old midfielder scored in Argentina’s 3-0 win against Chile, but he had to be replaced in the 79th minute because of an injury.

Gaston Edul reported that Mac Allister has adductor discomfort at the moment, and he is training differently until Tuesday in a bid to get him ready for Argentina’s game against Colombia.

However, it remains to be seen whether the midfielder will be able to feature in that game.

The news will come as a concern to Arne Slot, as Mac Allister has been a pivotal part of the Liverpool squad this season.

He has played every minute of Liverpool’s season so far as the Reds have kickstarted the new campaign in undefeated fashion.

Liverpool will want Alexis Mac Allister as an option against Nottingham Forest

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has claimed Mac Allister is in “a lot of pain” and has been “overloaded” recently, which is a cause for concern for Liverpool.

The former Brighton midfielder played 46 times for Liverpool last season as he scored seven goals and provided seven assists.

Mac Allister then went on to play five times as Argentina won the 2024 Copa America.
