Liverpool in hunt for Brazilian left-back – report

By Matt Bullin

Liverpool are in the hunt for Santos ace Zeca, according to a report.

Spanish media outlet AS claims Liverpool and Benfica are both interested in the 23-year-old left-back, who is valued at around £11million by his club.

However, it is said Zeca has been “offered” to La Liga outfit Valencia, as the player looks set to leave Santos this summer.

The report states the Brazilian’s representatives were in Valencia on Tuesday morning for contract talks with the club, over a potential summer move.

Zeca broke into Santos’ first team in January 2014, and he has since made 64 appearances in all competitions for the club.

He is primarily a right-back, but he is also comfortable filling in on the left-side of defence.

The 23-year-old was part of the Brazil national side which won gold at the 2016 Olympic Games, but he has not featured for his country’s senior team since then.

Football Insider verdict

It is a well known fact that the Reds need a new left-back. Alberto Moreno looks to be on his way out of Anfield this summer, and the club cannot afford to play James Milner there for another season. Zeca is relatively inexperienced, given he has only ever played in his native Brazil, but he would fit in well on Merseyside because of the Reds’ strong Brazilian contingent. It looks as though a move to Valencia is gathering pace, but if Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp really wants the 23-year-old, a bid upwards of Santos’ £11million asking price could turn their heads.

In other Liverpool transfer news, this defender is set to undergo a medical at a Championship club.
