Liverpool in ‘crisis’ as Virgil van Dijk footage emerges – pundit

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder James Milner after his heated exchange of words with Virgil van Dijk at Old Trafford.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker said Jurgen Klopp’s side are “in a crisis” after falling below the high standards they have set themselves.

The Reds lost 2-1 against the Red Devils on Monday night (22 August).

As shown on Sky Sports (22 August), Milner and Van Dijk had words with each other after Jadon Sancho’s opener for United.

Van Dijk has been widely criticised for not closing down Sancho prior to the goal.

When asked by Football Insider for his view on the exchange, Campbell said: “Look, this is what the best teams do.

“When things don’t go right, the best teams demand of each other. That is what it is about.

“I will be honest with you, it is never going to go right all of the time. The key is, when it is not going right you can see the experience of Milner and Van Dijk. They are having it out there on the pitch to try and rectify it. That is what the best teams do. They do not just accept it. They speak about it, organise it and try and sort it out.

“That is the key to this game. When things are not going right can you adjust? Can you sort it out? That is what they are doing.

“You tell me any manager who would not want to see their experienced players having a go at each other and trying to organise. This is what football is about. You need those kinds of players in you dressing room.

“Van Dijk has not been himself but who at Liverpool has in these first three games. The players have set the standard so high and when they drop below that level it is a crisis.”
