Liverpool in crunch Trent Alexander-Arnold talks – sources

Liverpool are expected to officially hold crunch talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold before the end of the year as Real Madrid interest intensifies.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that Madrid’s interest is not advanced, although he is a part of their plans to build a new “Galacticos” squad.

The right-back has just one year remaining on his current deal, with Europe’s elite clubs monitoring his situation if no new deal can be reached.

However, sources say new Liverpool boss Arne Slot is “desperate” to keep hold of Alexander-Arnold and will sit down to assess what the player’s long-term plans are.

Alexander-Arnold is a product of the Liverpool academy and first joined the club in 2004 at just six years old, before making his senior debut at 18.

He has gone on to make 310 appearances for the club, winning a Premier League title, a Champions League trophy, an FA Cup, two EFL Cups and the Club World Cup.

Last season, he made 37 appearances, scoring three goals and providing nine assists despite an injury which ruled him out for a large spell between January and April.

Sources say he is in no rush to leave Liverpool as things stand and has been earmarked as the future club captain amid uncertainty over the future of Virgil van Dijk.

However, it has also been said that the situation could change quickly.

Madrid’s interest has come as no surprise, and the defender’s close relationship with England teammate Jude Bellingham is also expected to play a part in his decision.

The 15-time Champions League winners are keen to make Alexander-Arnold their latest superstar addition after the signings of Kylian Mbappe and Endrick.

In other news, Man United could land a “devastating” points deduction.
