Liverpool are strongly interested in signing Real Madrid defender Danilo, according to a report.
Italian website Calcio Mercato claim that the Reds are keen on the 25-year-old, who would cost £22million to sign from the Bernabeu.
It is understood that the Merseyside club feel the Brazilian can be deployed as either a defender or a midfielder.
The report details that Liverpool are in a two-horse race for Danilo as Italian giants Juventus are considering a move.
Danilo has been a fringe player for Madrid this season and made just 16 appearances across all competitions.
However, the right-back has won the Champions League during his spell in Spain after he joined Madrid in 2015 from Porto.
Danilo proved his qualities as an attacking full-back for his former club Porto and was regarded as one of the best upcoming defenders in Europe, before struggling to cement a starting position at Madrid.
He made 41 appearances in his final season with Portuguese side Porto, scoring seven goals and supplying five assists.
Football Insider verdict:
Jurgen Klopp needs to improve his squad drastically if Liverpool are to compete at the top-end of the Premier League next season and Danilo would be a smart addition. The defender has struggled to settle since his move to Madrid, but that is not to say he isn’t still a top player. He was being tipped to be the next big right-back during the earlier stages of his career and the 25-year-old is only just coming into his peak years. Danilo would be able to provide real competition for Liverpool in the full-back positions and looks tailor-made for the pace of English football. The Reds believe he can be used as a defensive midfielder, an area they should certainly improve in the summer. Danilo’s signature would be a step in the right direction as they try to build a squad that can compete both domestically and Europe this season.
