Pundit issues emphatic Curtis Jones claim after journalist’s Liverpool transfer reveal

Curtis Jones will be handed a key role by Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp next season.

That is the view of former Spurs and England number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 21-year-old’s future on Merseyside.

Jones was a bit-part player in the 2021-22 campaign, with 11 Premier League starts to his name.

According to Goal‘s Neil Jones (29 June), the Reds have no intention of allowing the centre-midfielder to leave this summer.

The England under-21 international is said to have been the subject of interest from Leeds United and Aston Villa over the past 12 months.

Jones has three years left on his contract at Anfield.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Jones’ prospects heading into pre-season, Robinson said: “It is the right decision to keep him.

“Whether that is the best decision for the player or not only time will tell.

“It is quite clear that Liverpool are not going to sign any more midfielders in this window so I’d expect him to get more game time next season.

“It is now more of a squad game than ever. Jones will get his game time and his opportunity. He is a player who the manager likes.

“It would take a sizeable fee to turn Liverpool’s head. It doesn’t look like another midfielder is coming in so why would you sell one of your best young players who plays in that position.

“I expect Jones to start more games than he ever has done. He has an opportunity to show the manager what he can do this year.”
