Liverpool legend in line for stunning switch to champions - report

By Alex Taylor

Former Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina could be on his way to Barcelona this summer, according to reports.

The Daily Mail claim that the former Anfield star could replace the Manchester City-bound Marc-Andre ter Stegen at the Spanish champions this summer.

Reina is regarded as one of Liverpool’s finest ever goalkeepers for his nine-year spell at Anfield in which he played in 395 games and kept 177 clean sheets.

The 33-year-old has since spent time at Napoli on loan before moving to Bayern Munich last summer, where he has featured just three times for the German giants.

Football Insider reported that Liverpool were weighing up a sensational bid to re-sign Reina but that now appears unlikely.

Liverpool’s interest in the experienced Spain international was ended after they signed Loris Karius from Mainz for £4.7million in May to provide competition for Simon Mignolet.

The Merseysiders are said to be listening to offers for third choice keeper Adam Bogdan this summer and have sent out Danny Ward on-loan to Huddersfield after he agreed a new five-year deal on Monday.

Ward was the deputy to Mignolet in the final weeks of the season but will now spent a year away from the club.

In other Liverpool news, Reds midfielder Joe Allen has been named in the official UEFA Euro 2016 team of the tournament after a number of excellent performances for Wales.
