Liverpool ‘looking’ at signing two young players after another devastating injury blow

Liverpool are actively looking for January signings after Conor Bradley was ruled out of action for the remainder of the season.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who has heard what Liverpool are looking to do in the January transfer window.

Bradley’s injury sustained against Arsenal follows Alexander Isak’s devastating injury blow and means Arne Slot is in need of extra defensive cover, with the Reds having already struggled at the back this season.

Liverpool will not allow Joe Gomez to leave in January amid their defensive issues, and Slot looking for reinforcements.

Liverpool ‘have got to find the money’ to fix defensive issues

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes Liverpool are targeting a new centre-back and a full-back.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness has heard the club are looking at young players.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “This is where I think they’ve got to focus on certainly something happening, and I’m hearing there are a couple of younger players that they’re looking at, but younger ones that could come in right now.

“I think you know we’re talking about 22, 23-year-olds, and I think that is something they’re going to have to do with the [Marc] Guehi thing falling through was a big blow to them, I think, and I don’t believe that’s going to resurrect itself, so I think that yes it’s going to have to be centre-backs and I know the Conor Bradley position as well is one that they’re going to have to be looking at.

“That’s the area where Liverpool needs to focus on and that’s where Slot needs it. There big signings in the summer, apart from Isak, obviously, but [Hugo] Ekitike is starting to fire, [Florian] Wirtz is starting to fire, and so they’re getting some value out of those, but they’ve got to find the money somewhere to shore up that defence which is still looking quite difficult.

We saw even in the cup tie, the [Dominik] Szoboszlai situation was something that was just a lack of discipline and a lack of professionalism and that’s something that Liverpool have shown in defence, which is so unlike them, and so they’ve got to shore up that defence certainly going forward.”

Liverpool face losing star

Liverpool are sure to sign a centre-back in the summer if they cannot get a deal over the line in January.

Ibrahima Konate’s future at Liverpool remains uncertain, with the 26-year-old likely to leave Anfield with his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Liverpool remain interested in Marc Guehi, but the Reds may need to look elsewhere amid a number of clubs looking to sign the Crystal Palace star.
