Liverpool manager news: The real reason for Ruben Amorim snub revealed

Liverpool interviewed Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim for their upcoming vacant managerial role, sources have told Football Insider.

But the Reds pulled the plug on their interest because they felt the 39-year-old was too wedded to his favoured 3-4-3 system.

Liverpool chiefs wanted a manger who can get the best out of the current players, and believe a 3-4-3 formation does not suit the current team and the key personnel.

This also suggests that there will not be major squad changes at Anfield in the summer transfer window.

Sources told Football Insider that the Reds were ready to offer the Sporting boss a “huge” pay rise to move to Anfield.

It is, however, now Feyenoord’s Arne Slot that is set to replace Jurgen Klopp once the German leaves Merseyside at the end of the season.

Sources told Football Insider last month that Liverpool have agreed to pay the Eredivisie club almost £10million to bring the 45-year-old to Anfield.

Amorim currently has Sporting sitting top of the Portuguese league table, with the club also into the cup final, where they will take on Porto later this month.

Feyenoord meanwhile are second in the Dutch league standings, having won the cup with a win against NEC last month.
