Revealed: Kylian Mbappe is ‘huge’ Liverpool admirer as sponsors ready to pay up for ‘sensational’ deal
Kylian Mbappe is a “huge” admirer of Liverpool and would rather join them on what would be a sensational season-long loan than his many other suitors around the world, sources have told Football Insider.
But there is little chance of the Paris Saint-Germain superstar completing a shock move to Anfield before the window shuts.
Jurgen Klopp publicly laughed off the possibility earlier this week as Mbappe looks to find a solution for the final year of his contract.
The 24-year-old was dropped from PSG’s pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea and put up for sale on July 21 because PSG knew he wasn’t going to renew his contract and they wanted to sell him as quickly as possible.
They believe he has already agreed to join Real Madrid when he becomes a free agent next summer.
PSG do not want to let him leave for free when his deal expires next summer – the stand-off between player and club intensified when he was not interested in discussing a potential one-year move to Saudi Arabia last week after Al Hilal lodged a world-record £259m bid.
Liverpool have been touted as a potential destination for the France sensation, who nearly joined them as a 15-year-old before instead opting to sign for Monaco.
Although it would solve the Frenchman’s playing time issues, it would place PSG in a precarious position regarding a potential fee before his contract expires.
The French giants would be keen to discuss a loan with an obligation to buy him before next summer, but Liverpool do not have the financial resources to afford Mbappe on a permanent deal.
A loan would not be impossible, as it is believed that sponsors would contribute to the vast salary commanded by the World Cup hat-trick hero.
However, anything beyond that is out of the question for the Merseysiders despite the affection Mbappe and his mother, who is his main agent, have for Liverpool.
Both are believed to be big admirers of the club and the team’s entertaining and watchable playing style under Klopp.
