Liverpool midfielder hailed by pundit after ‘crazy’ Trent Alexander-Arnold reveal

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott is “an old head on young shoulders”, according to Kevin Campbell.

The ex-Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said the 18-year-old clearly “committed himself to his rehabilitation” on the evidence of his performance over Cardiff City.

Elliott scored on his long-awaited return from injury on Sunday in a 3-1 win over Cardiff City.

The left-footer had been sidelined with an ankle injury since Liverpool’s 3-0 win at Elland Road in mid-September.

Speaking to club media (9 February), Trent Alexander-Arnold revealed Elliott is a big part of the dressing room at Anfield.

He said “it’s crazy to think” that the attacking midfielder has only been a major feature of the first team for seven months.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the teenager’s return to Jurgen Klopp’s side, Campbell said:

“It’s great to see him back on the pitch. It was a bonus to see him get his first goal for Liverpool at the weekend.

“He’s a very impressive young man. He has an old head on young shoulders. Watching him the other day, it was as if he’d never been away. That is testimony to the lad and how he’s committed himself to his rehabilitation.

“He came back in, got on the pitch and made a difference. I was really impressed by him. What a young man.”

Speaking on Elliott, Alexander-Arnold said: “It feels like he has been around for a really long time considering he’s only really been playing this season.

“It’s quite crazy to think about.”
