Liverpool news: £97.5m Erling Haaland news could complicate Sadio Mane deal - expert

Gabby Agbonlahor has claimed Liverpool star Sadio Mane will be holding out for a similar wage to Erling Haaland as his contract standoff continues.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 30-year-old “will want what he deserves” amid links to Bayern Munich.

A recruitment source told this site last month (17 April) that Liverpool are planning to offer Mane a new contract – but will not break the bank to keep him.

The Senegal international is out of contract in June 2023 – with teammates Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino also set to walk away from Anfield for free at the end of next term.

Mane has been linked to German giants Bayern Munich with a potential summer deal in the works.

As per Fabrizio Romano (10 May), Man City are set to hand incoming striker Haaland a deal worth £375,000-a-week – which will land him £97.5million over five years.

Agbonlahor suggested Mane and Salah will be looking for a similar figure in order to pledge their future to Liverpool.

“I think the big thing for Mane and Salah is that they will want what they deserve,” he told Football Insider‘s Connor Whitley.

“If you look at Erling Haaland coming in. He’s on about £375,000-a-week – the same as Kevin de Bruyne.

“They will want to get around that figure. Both players will be well aware of the numbers they’re putting up every week, the trophies they’re bringing in.

“They won’t care that Liverpool can’t pay it, they’ll be wanting to get what they deserve.

If Mane is to move to Bayern Munich – they’ll have to stump up that wage too.”

In other news, pundit claims Jurgen Klopp could match Man City with new Liverpool transfer plan.
