‘Incredible’ Liverpool claim issued by pundit after 23-year-old leaves Trent Alexander-Arnold ‘lost for words’

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate for his “incredible” performance in the Champions League final.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gunners and Everton striker said the 23-year-old defended “quit brilliantly” against Real Madrid winger Vinicius Junior in the channels.

Konate was given the nod to start the Champions League final ahead of Joel Matip.

However, his impressive display was not enough to stop Jurgen Klopp’s side losing 1-0 to Real Madrid.

Speaking to LFC TV (29 May), Trent Alexander-Arnold was “lost for words” when trying to describe Konate’s performance in Paris.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of what he saw from Konate, Campbell said: “Incredible.

“He was outstanding.

“A lot of money was invested in him and throughout the season he has been getting stronger. He has been getting stronger and has scored some really important goals.

“His performances have been excellent. I thought he was quite brilliant in the Champions League final.

“He covered from Trent and dealt with Vinicius Junior really well. He used his body and aggressiveness to quell the threat.

“It was a really mature and composed performance from him. I thought he was outstanding beside Virgil van Dijk, I really did.”

Liverpool signed Konate from RB Leipzig in a £36million deal last summer.

He made 29 appearances across all competitions in the 2021-22 campaign.
