'I Don't Want To See It' - Exclusive: Darren Bent fumes about Jordan Henderson

Darren Bent has urged Jurgen Klopp to stop playing Jordan Henderson as an emergency centre-half for Liverpool.

The former Sunderland and England striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, has heralded his old teammate’s return to the side but admitted he was wasted playing as a defender.

The 31-year-old has been shoehorned into the Liverpool defence in the last two matches, which resulted in wins over West Ham and Tottenham.

The Merseysiders subsequently made two defender signings on deadline day – Ben Davies and Ozan Kabak – as it emerged Joel Matip will be sidelined through injury for the rest of the season.

Bent admitted Liverpool do not look the same team without Henderson in the starting XI but insisted the midfielder needed to be playing in his natural position.

Asked how important it was for Liverpool to have Henderson back, Bent told Fotball Insider: “For starters, I don’t like Jordan being a centre-half, I don’t want to see that.

“He’s just an influential leader, isn’t he? He’s a leader, they just don’t seem to have that same emphasis when he’s not there, he is just their captain.

“There are other players in the squad who have got more ability than him but I don’t think anyone is as influential as him. They need him in that team, driving people on, his energy energy so it’s good he’s back sooner rather than later because they’re going to need him.”

Henderson has played 22 times across all competitions for Liverpool this season, with one goal and one assist under his belt.

However, his last three outings have all come at centre-back with several first-team defenders out of action.

In other news, Liverpool have set sights on signing an international captain by Monday.
