Liverpool news: 'Door open' for superstar sale after Sky transfer update - pundit
Noel Whelan has suggested the “door is open” for Sadio Mane to leave Liverpool this summer after Luis Diaz’s arrival in January.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Leeds striker admitted the Reds seem to be “preparing for a new era” by signing talent like the 25-year-old Colombian.
As reported by Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg (13 May), Mane, 30, is Bayern Munich’s top target this summer and that initial talks have taken place over a move.
As revealed by Football Insider last month (17 April), Liverpool are planning on offering the Senegal star a new contract.
His current terms expire next summer.
However, Whelan suggested that Diaz’s impressive form could see Liverpool green light an exit if talks are not successful.

Whelan told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “I think now, because of the introduction of Diaz, does it open up a door? I think Mane is exceptional. He really is. He’s such a quality player and there’s a good four years left in him.
“Don’t get me wrong, he’s invaluable to Liverpool, Mane, but you just see that youth coming into the club at the minute. It’s like they’re preparing themselves for their next phase?
“There’s a lot of discussion that needs to take place at the end of the season. I wouldn’t like to see Mane leave the Premier League, he’s an exceptional player along. I just think that they’re kind of preparing for a new era.”
Mane has scored 119 goals in 267 appearances for Liverpool across all competitions.
He has netted 22 times in 49 games this season.
