Liverpool news: Expert ‘wowed’ by Alisson Becker after ‘sensational’ reveal

Paul Robinson has claimed Alisson Becker has been “given the opportunity” to shine this season because of how bad Liverpool have been defensively.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one heaped praise on the 30-year-old for his “sensational” displays between the sticks.

Alisson impressed once again as the Reds recommenced their Premier League campaign with a 3-1 win over Aston Villa on Boxing Day.

The Anfield Talk revealed (25 December) that the Brazil number one had prevented 6.8 expected goals in the 2022-23 campaign prior to the win over Villa.

Chelsea’s Kepa Arrizabalaga was second with 4.7 prevented.

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to the stat, Robinson said: “Wow.

“That stat shows just how poor Liverpool have been in the first half of the season. Alisson has kept them within touching distance of the top four. He has been sensational.

“Stats can sometimes give a false perception of what’s going on but not in this case. Alisson has made a lot of big saves this season. He has been tested more than usual this season. We are seeing what a top-quality goalkeeper he is.

“For all of Liverpool’s failings this year, Alisson has excelled and has been given the opportunity to because of how bad they have been defensively. He has been called upon to make saves on a regular basis and he has won them a lot of points.

“Klopp will be hoping he is not as busy in the second half of the season.”

In other news, Liverpool have been backed to sign a Jude Bellingham alternative after an update on signing three more stars.
