Liverpool news: ‘Out of order’ Harvey Elliott facing FA action as ‘crazy’ footage emerges – Ex-Fifa official
Harvey Elliott may receive a quiet warning from the FA for his “crazy” celebrations as Liverpool won their ninth EFL Cup with a penalty shoot-out victory over Chelsea yesterday (27 February).
That is the view of ex-Fifa and Premier League referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Elliott’s “out of order” reaction.
As relayed by Football Daily on Twitter, the midfielder was filmed celebrating in front of the Liverpool fans with a red flare.
The teenager was not originally included in Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squad but was promoted to the bench when Thiago picked up an injury during the warm up.
He was introduced from the bench with just over 10 minutes to go of normal time and scored Liverpool’s ninth penalty as they won the shootout 11-10.
“That is crazy,” Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
“I think the FA has got to look at that. It’s way out of order.
“However you look at it, there’s an imminent danger here. Flares are banned. In Europe, they take quite a severe action on players and they do the same here.
“Ok, he’s done it in celebration and I understand that but he’s not setting a good example so the FA may have a whisper in his ear.
“He’s a young lad and he needs a bit of advice. At the same time, he’s had a very difficult season. You could see the emotion coming out when he scored his penalty kick.”

Elliott missed over three months of football with an ankle injury he suffered against Leeds in September.
The 18-year-old look set for a breakout campaign before that and still has eight appearances to his name across all competitions.
