Liverpool news: Pundit can't believe James Milner after record-breaking reveal

Frank McAvennie is shocked Liverpool veteran James Milner has not been on the losing side when he has scored in a Premier League fixture.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Milner is the last player he would have imagined with such an impressive statistic.

The midfielder made his 600th Premier League appearance just before the World Cup break and become the fourth player to reach the milestone.

As reported by journalist Chris Shaw (15 November), of the 54 games the 36-year-old has scored in, he has not ended on the losing side in any of them, a record in the English top flight.

McAvennie was very surprised that the statistic was attributed to Milner.

He is not a striker or anything, he is even playing right-back sometimes,” he told Football Insider.

He is a wonderful professional, him and [Jordan] Henderson are both experienced pros.

It is a great stat for him but he would have been the last one I would have thought with that kind of stat.

It is a really good stat but I would not have guessed it that is for sure.

Milner’s Anfield contract is up in the summer after he joined from Man City in 2015.

According to the Liverpool Echo, via Anfield Watch (19 November), the veteran is expected to leave Merseyside when his contract expires.

The former England international has made 19 appearances for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

In those outings he has provided one assist.
