Liverpool news: Pundit echoes call for radical change as Jurgen Klopp fumes
Kevin Phillips has echoed Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s call for the introduction of five substitutes in the Premier League.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the manager of South Shields said having an extra two substitutes available to managers would not give certain teams “an unfair advantage.”
As quoted by the Mirror (18 March), Klopp has reiterated his call for the Premier League to increase the amount of substitutes allowed per game.

The 54-year-old believes such a change is “essential” to protect “world-class players” from getting injured amid the demands of international and club football.
In December 2020, the Premier League voted against allowing five substitutes in matches.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his thoughts on the issue, Phillips said: “I would actually support the introduction of five subs.
“We have five subs at my level and it works well.
“It is a level playing field for the majority of the Premier League. I don’t think it gives an unfair advantage to teams.
“There is no reason why it shouldn’t change in my eyes. I agree with Klopp on this one. I do not see it as a major issue if I’m being honest.”

Speaking on the subject, Klopp said: “We have to think about how we can keep these world class players (fresh).
“Sorry to say but during the international break I don’t know how many Burnley players on international duty.”
