Liverpool news: Pundit rubbishes Graeme Souness claim about Mohamed Salah – ‘I would not dare say that’

Kevin Campbell has rubbished suggestions Mohamed Salah is resting on his laurels after signing a huge contract at Liverpool.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Arsenal and Everton striker said the 30-year-old’s performances are reflective of Jurgen Klopp’s side’s struggles.

Last season’s joint top-scorer has netted just twice in the opening six Premier League games.

As revealed by Sky Sports (7 September), Salah’s expected goals and shots per game have almost halved from the 2021-22 campaign.

Speaking on talkSPORT, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo (5 September), Graeme Souness revealed he fears the Egypt international is “getting into his armchair because he has signed a big contract.”

When asked by Football Insider for his reaction to Souness’ comments, Campbell said: “I would not dare say that about Mohamed Salah.

“He is as committed as anyone to Liverpool football club. He wants to do well. You can see that.

“At the end of the day, Liverpool have not started as they normally do or would have liked. That is the bottom line.

“Come the end of the season, Salah will be up there for goals as he always is. He is playing with a new striker. There is a little bit more knowledge that has to go around. It is a different feel to how it usually is.

“When they had Sadio Mane on one side and Salah on the other they carried more threat. Luis Diaz is great but he is not a Mane. I think Mane’s style of play helped Salah.

“It is going to be interesting how they work that one out. Liverpool have to get Salah going if they are going to challenge.”
