Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Kevin Stewart has headed to Brentford for a trial as he looks to reignite his career, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 27-year-old is a free agent after leaving Hull City when his contract expired over the summer.
A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Stewart is spending time at Championship promotion hopefuls Brentford as they have an extended look at him with a view to a potential transfer.
The central midfielder is also building up his fitness as he looks to secure a new club.
Stewart left Hull after his initial three-year deal had ended upon their relegation from the Championship in July.
He had played 78 times for the east Yorkshire club in three years, including 21 league starts among 28 appearances last season.
At Liverpool, Stewart made 20 appearances in three years before joining Hull City for £4million rising to a potential £8m in the summer of 2017.
Stewart’s first-team path was blocked by a galaxy of international and Premier League stars.
But he made a big impression on his old Anfield teammates during his three seasons at the club.
Trent Alexander-Arnold recently revealed that Stewart was the only player who gave James Milner, recognised as the fittest man in a super-fit squad, a “run for his money” in pre-season drills.
Seventh-placed Brentford are well placed to challenge for promotion again this season.
