Liverpool news: This may be real reason Divock Origi still at Anfield after ‘unbelievable’ reveal – pundit

Paul Robinson suspects the likes of Leeds United and West Ham have not moved for Liverpool striker Divock Origi because of his lack of game time.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said clubs don’t want to take a risk on the 27-year-old amid fears he could not cope with regular football.

Origi had a major impact from the bench on Sunday as Liverpool beat Everton 2-0 at Anfield.

The centre-forward had a hand in Andy Robertson’s opener before scoring the second goal of the game in the 85th minute.

No foreign player has scored more goals in the Merseyside derby than the Belgium international.

Speaking on his performance and role at Anfield, Origi told club media (25 April) the “unbelievable” feeling of scoring for the Reds is not something he takes for granted.

When asked by Football Insider why clubs in need of strikers like Leeds United and West Ham have not take a chance on Origi, Robinson said:

“You have to factor in how little he has played. You cannot sign him and be convinced that he could play week in, week out and stay injury free because he’s not done that before. It’s a much bigger ask for player to play 20 games on the bounce than to score off the bench once every few weeks. He has spent the majority of his career at Liverpool on the bench.

“Jurgen Klopp is always very complimentary of him but that’s just great man-management from Klopp. The top managers keep 23 players happy. Klopp makes everyone feel a part of the team.

“I’m not surprised that no-ones taken a risk on Origi even though he has showed he is capable of scoring goals in the Premier League. He is not top level for me.
