Liverpool have been backed to secure a return for Jurgen Klopp to Anfield.

The 58-year-old is yet to take up another managerial position since leaving the Reds in 2024 and has instead become the Head of Global Soccer for Red Bull GmbH.

During his time at the Merseyside club, the German guided them to numerous trophies, including one Premier League title and one Champions League trophy.

Now, one bookmaker is increasingly confident that Klopp could return at 14/1, with Oddschecker on 28 March confirming that these odds have been slashed.

Below, Football Insider explores whether a Klopp return to Liverpool could really be a success.

Could Jurgen Klopp succeed at Liverpool?

For many, Klopp is no doubt the best manager on the market right now if Liverpool chooses to sack Arne Slot.

The coach oversaw a golden period at the Reds, and the team that he built helped the club win the Premier League last season.

As a result, it should be a no-brainer that the club looks to appoint Klopp if he is available.

However, there should also be caution. Klopp’s final two seasons saw a clear decline, with Liverpool no longer competing for the title, and they won just the Carabao Cup.

On top of this, the 2022-23 campaign even saw them fail to qualify for the Champions League, something that Slot is currently being lambasted for.

Going back to old managers also does not often breed success. Frank Lampard had a terrible return to Chelsea a few years ago, while Kenny Dalglish only lasted a season and a half back in the early 2010s at the Reds.

Therefore, if Liverpool want to go down this route, they must think long and hard about whether it is the best option on the table.

Who else is linked to the Liverpool job?

Football Insider exclusively revealed that Xabi Alonso is a leading Liverpool candidate if Slot is sacked, and this is reflected in the bookies.

The former Real Madrid boss is 5/6 to come in, making him the odds-on favourite for an Anfield return.

After this, Luis Enrique, Sebastian Hoeness and Julian Nagelsmann all follow at 14/1, with the bookies clearly believing that Alonso is all but certain to be called upon if the job is up for grabs.

For Slot to stay another season, he is priced at 7/4, with the bookies believing that it is more likely that Alonso is in charge than the Dutchman for the start of next season.
