Liverpool ‘over the moon’ at Keita injury update as return date predicted – pundit

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp “will be over the moon” to see Naby Keita escape Paul Pogba’s horror tackle without serious injury, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Premier League striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, admitted to “fearing the worst” after the 26-year-old was stretchered off at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Speaking to club media ahead of Liverpool’s EFL Cup clash at Preston, assistant manager Pepijn Lijnders revealed Keita had only suffered bruising from Pogba’s challenge.

Lijnders said the club are assessing the midfielder on a daily basis, with the initial signs “looking good”.

Campbell suggested Keita would be available for the visit of Atletico Madrid in the Champions League next Wednesday.

“Jurgen Klopp will be over the moon” he told Football Insider assistant editor Dylan Childs.

“Keita is starting to come into his own. He has scored some very important goals this season. He scored a cracker in midweek and then a very good goal, a great little finish, at Old Trafford.

“Luckily, it is not too serious because you always fear the worst when a player is stretchered off.

“This weekend will probably be too soon but I’m sure he’ll be there for the next game.

“The key is momentum. When you get a chance to play in this Liverpool team you have to take it. If you don’t, you found yourself out for long spells. Fair play to Keita.”
