Kieran Maguire: FSG ‘privately furious’ as new Liverpool accusation emerges
Fenway Sports Group were “privately furious” that their plans to join the Super League were scuppered by fans – and they would jump at the opportunity if it arises again.
That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the ongoing attempts to relaunch the breakaway competition.
FSG president John Henry posted a much-derided video apology after Liverpool withdrew from the Super League along with five of their Premier League peers amid an extraordinary fan backlash in April 2021.

The ownership regime, who are currently looking to offload a significant stake in the club, have since claimed that their stance towards the project has not changed.
But as quoted by The Athletic earlier this month (5 January), Barcelona president Joan Laporta insisted that English clubs “remain interested”.
Barca, Real Madrid and Juventus are the only clubs who still publicly support the Super League, and they have set up a company, A22 Sports Management, to engineer its resurrection.
The possible introduction of an independent regulator for football in England and a recent European Court of Justice preliminary ruling have come as body blows for A22.
But Maguire claims that, if the Super League organisers can turn the tide, Liverpool would not hesitate to sign up.
“There is no doubt that it was crocodile tears from the owners of the Big Six clubs,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.
“They were because they were privately furious that their plans had effectively been vetoed by the fans,
“This is further indication that the people who own these clubs have absolutely no idea what domestic football is all about in terms of its culture and history.

“Therefore, Liverpool would be more than happy to find some sort of route into the Super League.
“They will be using all of their persuasive powers and their lobbying agencies. They will also put pressure on an independent regulator to allow them into this competition should it effort form again.“
