Liverpool player ratings v Leeds: Alexander-Arnold stars
By Editor Wayne Veysey
Football Insider rates the Liverpool players in their 2-0 win against Leeds in the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday night.
Simon Mignolet 6 – Made a fine first-half save from Hadi Sacko but had the collywobbles whenever Leeds had a set piece as his familiar weakness resurfaced.
Trent Alexander-Arnold 8 – Another display oozing potential. Bombed forward at every potential and delivered a stunning whipped cross from the right flank to set up Origi’s goal.
Lucas Leiva 6 – The stand-in skipper had a few nervous moments and his distribution was not as smooth as might have been expected.
Ragnar Klavan 6 – Looked ill at ease whenever the Leeds attackers ran at him.

Alberto Moreno 6 – Went AWOL occasionally from his left-back station but his team were not punished.
Kevin Stewart 5 – Anchored the midfield with great energy but his lack of quality in possession stood out. Fortunate that his mistake did not result in Leeds taking the lead after 52 minutes. Withdrawn midway through the second half due to injury
Georginio Wijnaldum 7 – Had Liverpool’s two best opportunities to break the deadlock but extended his sequence of errant finishes. Grew in authority as the game progressed and showed great awareness to set up Ben Woodburn for the second goal.
Emre Can 7 – Too static in the first half but pushed further forward after the break and made some fine runs beyond the forwards.
Sadio Mane 5 – Surprisingly subdued display from the Liverpool dangerman. Had little joy against the well organised visiting defence.
Divock Origi 7 – Seemed half a yard off the pace before he demonstrated his poacher’s instinct by stealing in at the near post to break the deadlock and score his second goal in consecutive matches.
Ovie Ejaria 6 – Drove forward confidently with the ball but his distribution was mixed and withdrawn late on.
Woodburn (for Stewart 62mins) – 8
Milner (for Ejaria 81mins) – 6
Grugic (for Origi 90mins) – 6
