Liverpool player ratings v Plymouth: Attacker 4/10

By Dominic Toner

Football Insider rates the Liverpool players after their 1-0 victory against Plymouth in the FA Cup third-round replay on Wednesday night.

Loris Karius 6 – Enjoyed a fairly quiet night against the lower league side, made a good save in the first-half from a long range effort.

Trent Alexander-Arnold 7 – The emerging youngster played more like a winger for most of the match and put in some good crosses. Did make one immaculate last-ditch tackle in the first-half to prevent a certain goal and he looks to have a big future at Anfield.

Joe Gomez 6 – The centre-back was booked in the opening 45 minutes and did face a good battle against Arnold Garita. He is slowing edging back to full fitness after a long-term injury.

Lucas 8 – The stand-in captain opened the scoring with a fantastic header from a Philippe Coutinho corner. He made a great run to the near post and powered a thunderous header past the goalkeeper.

Alberto Moreno 5 – He didn’t manage to exploit the space down the left wing and didn’t look defensively reliable, even against League Two opposition.

Ovie Ejaria 6 – The youngster was comfortable in possession, but was given lots of space to move the ball in the middle of the park.

Kevin Stewart 6 – The central midfielder broke up a few Plymouth attacks and kept things ticking over, but was no match for defender Sonny Bradley in the aerial duals from set-pieces.

Philippe Coutinho 6 – Grabbed the assist for the opening goal with a whipped corner into a dangerous area. He was given some valuable minutes and could be ready for a start against Swansea on Saturday.

Daniel Sturridge 5 – He has a penalty appeal turned down in the first-half and made some good runs in behind the defence. Failed to create many clear goalscoring opportunities.

Divock Origi 4 – He was quiet in the weekend against Manchester United and was once again invisible. The striker has a real big chance to stake his place in the first-team during Sadio Mane’s absence to the Africa Cup of Nations, but showed very little against Plymouth. He missed a penalty late on with a poor effort and it summed up his performance.

Ben Woodburn 6 – The youngster showed glimpses of his qualities, but operated on the right hand side to make room for Sturridge and Origi in the starting XI.

Harry Wilson (for Coutinho 65mins) 6

Sheyi Ojo (for Sturridge 76mins) 6
